When LinkedIn launched their Company Pages feature almost a year ago, I was underwhelmed. Basically the only information that companies could put on their page was Careers and Products & Services. I understand the appeal of a Careers section, given how many job-seekers visit LinkedIn – put the information where people are looking for it. But given company websites can provide a far better display of Products & Services than LinkedIn can, I really didn’t get the point.
Notably missing was any way for companies to communicate with followers via LinkedIn – no status updates, no blogging. Not very social.
But today LinkedIn fixed that with the launch of company status updates, “that will now let members receive further insights — breaking news about the company, employee moves, relevant job opportunities or the latest on their products and services including multimedia content — directly from the companies they follow.”
Status updates can be up to 500 characters long and can support URLs and multimedia as well. LinkedIn members can also comment, like or share these status updates.
