Well, they have continued to develop (I don’t know about “innovate” — a lot of what they’ve implemented has already been done on other sites, but that doesn’t make it any less useful on LinkedIn), but I agree that there are some key areas in which they could use improvement that people have been talking about for a long time. Fortunately, there are some people working on it. Check out MyLinkPower.com. It’s in semi-stealth mode at the moment, but put your name on the list.
