81124_resume_1 Over on LinkedIn Answers, recruiters and hiring managers are sharing their responses to the question, “What is the funniest (or worst) resume gaffe you’ve seen in 2007?

Some of the choice answers so far include:

  • “I prefer lunch to be gin at Noon everyday.”
  • “I want to work in a fast paste environment.”
  • “Experienced Writter Available”
  • A resume where the candidate explicitly spelled out his/her sexual orientation and included links to related sites as a bonus.

Hat tip to Troy Bettinger. For more examples and links to several other collections of resume blunders, check out the Resumes category on his blog.

UPDATED 3/30/2009: Troy’s blog has moved to NotJobs.WordPress.com. I’ve updated the links accordingly.

Too funny! Very interesting post. I wonder if these folks got hired though. Hmmm…..

  3. Oh Scott, this is the first thing I’ve seen that makes me pine for my long-gone recruiter days. The only thing that ever equaled the gaffs in the resumes were the idiocies of the hiring managers, but, of course, those weren’t passed around.

I know this is an old post, but hey, stupid is eternal. I prefer my lunch to be gin and noon, too, but I doubt I will tell my prospective employer that. Love posts like this, made my day – frederick sallaz

I think one of the worst things I’ve seen was a young man who put a link to his Facebook page. Of course, I could have looked him up anyway, but what I saw there was not impressive unless you are looking for someone to coordinate a beer fest.

Something similar happened to me once, when I first entered the class of students. I wanted to write my name on the board and I started with “profe…”, and my mind went blank. For an agonizing moment I was thinking if I should write “professor” or “proffesor”. I teach English language.
