There are thousands of LinkedIn groups, covering just about any topic. LinkedIn groups are wonderful tools to use when you are looking to enhance your network.

When you run a group, however, you want ways to help make your group stand out from the pack. One excellent way to do this is design a premium welcome message template.

Whenever someone new joins your group, they are going to receive this message. You want to capture their attention and give them the information they need efficiently.

I recently joined the Wisconsin Top Networkers Group and received this message:

It was friendly, engaging, and to the point, but I thought it could still use some work. I made some suggestions, and the owner of the group, Shabana, loved them!

See the difference?

This week I had the awesome experience of speaking with Michael David McGuire on his radio show, Nighttalker.

We spent the time talking about various aspects of social media: privacy, tips, and mistakes.

Since becoming a LinkedIn Rockstar, I have decided to ‘live out-loud’. For me, that has worked very well. When I share about my life, people feel more comfortable sharing about theirs, and that helps create a bond.

Others, however, may not be so comfortable. I always advise people to stay away from topics such as religion and politics. On subjects such as family, relationships, hobbies, and experiences people need to decide upfront where their boundaries are and adjust privacy settings accordingly.

A good headshot is key on LinkedIn. Studies have shown that your profile will be clicked on 40x more when you have a picture! If you can communicate your personality in your picture, you have it made. When having my photo taken, I always focus on who I am looking at and what I am thinking about.

The other biggest mistake I see people make is putting something other than your name in your name field. This mistake can get your account taken down by LinkedIn!

For more information about the broadcast, check out my post on RockTheWorldMedia, and as always, Rock on!
