I truly laughed out loud when I read this today…
As a little bit of setup, I’ve been working on a deal with this company for several months. Round and round, on and off, you know how it goes. Well, it got handed off internally at their company to yet another person — someone whose name I hadn’t even heard before, much less spoken to. So I decided to do the smart thing and use LinkedIn to try to garner some internal support there (why I didn’t think to do that several months ago is another story… another lesson learned).
I identified four or five people two degrees away from me who I thought might be worth talking with about the situation, so I sent the requests. Meanwhile, last week I finally connected with the new person at the company, and we ended up spending about half an hour on the phone and setting up a conference call with the key people this week. Everything’s moving forward nicely now.
So as I started getting responses to the connection requests I’d made, I politely thanked them for their time, explained the situation and simply asked them that if they had the opportunity to voice their support for the project, I’d appreciate it.
Today I got a really choice response from one of those people:
“Happy to hear that I wasn’t able to be of assistance!”

I’m going to have to use that phrase… many situations arise daily where it would be appropriate.
LinkedIn is a poweful tool – it’s like a little window on the world of your target companies and your compeitors! Although most people have a LinkedIn profile, I think very few actually realise how other people can slice & dice the data to target certain people or groups of people. We’re all somebody’s target..!
Did the person really mean it or did it just come out that way?
Either way it’s very funny and it’s something I could use!!
That was a funny line.lol It sounds like the guy could be joking or in a way being sarcastic.
